Renowned carmakers Knocks Supreme Court door against Vehicle Ban in Delhi
It is reported that three major car makers Toyota Motors, Mahindra & Mahindra and Mercedes Benz have joint hands and knocked the doors of the Supreme Court of India against the vehicle ban in Delhi with engine limits more than 2000cc. The above plea was filed against the order passed by Delhi Government in December for non moving diesel vehicles over 2000cc in Delhi till March 31, 2016. Replying to their petition Chief Justice of Supreme Court, India, Mr. T.S Thakur, said, “People’s life is at stake and you are interested in selling cars”, he also added that rest of hearing will proceed on January 5, 2016.
Addressing the press Vikram Kirloskar, Vice Chairman, Toyota Kirloskar Motor, stated “ The ban on registration of diesel vehicles in Delhi that have a displacement of over 2000cc was issued, and said that this order will need to be studied and that the impact will be direct for players who have a large number of affected vehicles. One must note Toyota's own bestselling Fortuner and Innova account for big sales in Delhi”.
Apart from the car ban in Delhi with an engine limit of 2000cc, the Supreme Court has also banned the entry of commercial vehicles registered before 2005 and entry of trucks not carrying goods in Delhi from NH1 and NH8. Additionally, the Supreme Court has also ordered all taxi drivers of the NCR region to convert their taxi in CNG by the end of March 31, 2016.
