Skoda Citigo like VW UP gets five doors, India launch late this year
Skoda has unveiled five door version of its hatch Citigo. This five door version will be for India and is expected to be launched in India sometime late this year. The Skoda Citigo is based on Volkswagen Up and the later has already received its five door version lately. The Skoda Citigo has started production in October 2011 and is slated to be launched in Europe this summer.
The Skoda Citigo 5 door version is expected to be unveiled at the upcoming Geneva Motor Show in March. What will attract car customers is the small size of the car besides the affordable price. As this is the first small car offering and seventh model line by Skoda internationally, the Czech car maker expects a lot from it and it is expected that the customer response with be commensurate with it.

The Citigo was initially planned to be a three door hatchback but later it has grown two more doors. India will be receiving this five door version and this Volkswagen UP based car seems to be more like its sibling. In the country, it is expected to be priced lower than UP and that will be the catch for the car.

Look wise, the exteriors of Citigo are characteristic of a hatch, small bonnet, small grille and a hatch at the back. Under the hood, the Citigo will have a 1 L petrol engine and is expected to be available in two power options viz. 59bhp and 75 bhp. The petrol engine is both performance driven and being only a three pot engine is frugal as well. In India, frugality and price in this segment is crucial as the average Indian car buyer looks for these two primarily apart from other features. Notably, the car has been awarded 5 starts in EURO NCAP safety tests.
