Volkswagen Group’s entry level brand in India, Skoda Auto seems laden with confidence upon their new sedan the Skoda Rapid. This vehicle will raise the bar of brand Skoda in its segment in India and will be the base level car in the premium den of Skoda.
Mr. Winfried Vahland, The Chairman for Skoda Global said that India is one of the most significant markets which the company is looking at in near future as Skoda is emerging with satisfactory results in the nation. The company has been in India since last ten years nearly and has by now studied the market demands very well through its continuous market research in every auto segment. He added that Skoda is now leading the market in the premium segment with its sedan Skoda Laura. Earlier the company has launched compact Sports Utility Vehicle- Skoda Yeti and Skoda Fabia is doing well in hatchback segment.
But he sounded very confident in saying that Skoda Rapid will be the sales booster for Skoda in the country till date. The compact sedan which has commenced its manufacturing recently in Chakan plant, Pune is expected to roll-out its production by December end this year.

According to the chairman the company is yet to unfold its wings properly as per the need of the Indian auto industry. A huge potential lies in the sedan and hatchback segment apart from the mini or small car section. Volkswagen is a brand in itself apart from being the parent company, and will now aim more in the development of hatchback cars in India while Skoda is striving to concentrate more on the sedan segment, and hence reduces the chance of a possible clash with the parent brand, as informed by Mr. Winfried Vahland.
For the plans of Skoda Citigo and Volkswagen coming to India he stated that these compact cars are built to fulfill the emission norms of Europe, hence feature best quality and safety norms.
He affirmed that in the forthcoming years the markets in India, Russia and China will prosper not only in the automobile sector but in other verticals too. These countries have been promising in the past and will have greater role play in future as well.
