Skoda Superb to re-enter luxury segment with cheaper variant

The Czech based automaker Skoda India has started feeling the heat in the premium luxury segment with arrival of recently launched New Hyundai Sonata and impending debut of 2012 Toyota Camry. Hence, in order to combat the situation, a slashed priced ‘Ambition’ variant of Skoda Superb sedan is all-set to break shackles on 18th April’ 2012 in Mumbai. The expected cheaper Ambition variant will see some of its premium features trimmed, in order to get fitted in competitive price bracket of INR 17 Lakh to INR 20 Lakh, ex-showroom Delhi.

The toned price Ambition trim will miss some of the exciting elements; which are a part of existing Superb models, such as bi-xenon headlamps, electrically powered sunroof and touch-screen interface on the centre console along with Bluetooth function. Whereas, advanced features like Electronic Stability Program (ESP), Hill Hold and Hill Descent Control (HDC) are also eligible to face the axe. At the same time, company will not compromise with safety equipments; as a result, features for instance, front dual SRS airbags, Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) with Electronic Stability Program (EBD) will definitely be in place as usual.

The said variant will be offered in both fuel choices of petrol and diesel. The 1.8L TSI will generate a maximum power of 160 PS and a topmost torque of 250 Nm. The executive Skoda saloon will get a butter smooth 6-speed manual gearbox. Moreover, the diesel powered 2.0L TDI motor will yield a high power output of 140 PS teamed up with 320 Nm of pure torque. This performance packed diesel guzzler will be bestowed with 6-speed dual clutch Automatic Transmission (AT).

The prices of the new variant has been leaked ahead of the launch of the Ambition; it is reported that the new price of the Superb Rs 18.55 lakh (ex-showroom, Mumbai).
