Skoda to add low priced Ambition trim to the Superb line up

It would sound unbelievable in the light of the present excise duty hike and the consequent hike in prices by car makers but Skoda will be launching a low priced entry level model Ambition of its premium saloon Skoda Superb. The Skoda Superb Ambition will be an addition to the present model line up and is expected to be available in petrol and diesel engine options. The Skoda Superb Ambition price is expected to remain lower than the present Skoda Superb that starts at Rs 19 lakh. The Superb Ambition launch will be expanding the prospects of this car over Hyundai Sonata, Maruti Kizashi and Honda Accord.

To be available in both petrol and diesel options, the petrol Superb Ambition is expected to have a 1.8 L turbo powered turbo engine that outputs 160 bhp and a peak torque of 250 Nm. The diesel Superb Ambition is expected to have the 2 L TDI, 140 bhp engine that outputs 320 Nm of torque under the hood. The petrol powered Superb Ambition is expected to have the six speed manual gearbox while the diesel trim is expected to derive the 6 six speed DSG automatic gearbox. Besides, if the price has been lowered, some features will certainly be dropped from the list such as the electric sunroof, touchscreen infotainment device, headlamps which were Bi-Xenon earlier are now normal now. Apart from this don’t expect Bluetooth connectivity on the new Superb model coming. Electronic Stability Program and some other features will be found missing on the new Superb Ambition due to price cut.

It is believed that the low priced Superb car is being launched by Skoda to counter the recently launched Hyundai Sonata that has made a reentry in India and since Hyundai is an established brand, Skoda might fear dampening of sales due to the launch. There are also reports that another trim Elegance with some new features is on the cards. The Skoda Superb Combi estate is already pending for India.
