Skoda to discontinue Rapid AT from Indian car market
With Volkswagen eliminating Volkswagen Vento AT from its brigade of Vento sedan, its subsidiary Skoda is also going to remove Skoda Rapid AT from its fleet of Rapid to make space for Rapid TSI enriched with DSG gearbox in Indian car market. The announcement of replacing Rapid AT with TSI means that now Rapid will be available in 1.6 litre petrol variant followed by 1.6 litre diesel engine generating power of 105 bhp and torque of 250 Nm.
It would be important to mention that Skoda had developed Rapid mainly on platform of Vento and therefore its architecture very resembles from Vento to great extent. Skoda had launched Rapid in both petrol and diesel variant with four versions available in petrol variant i.e. two manual and two automatic and diesel variant in elegance. The Rapid AT did not performed according to expectations despite of being energized with powerful engine.
By launching TSI Rapid, Skoda intends to enjoy some benefit and divert attention of Vento TSI enthusiasts. According to reports Rapid TSI will be priced Rs.20, 000 less than Vento TSI that is available with price tag of Rs. 9.99 lakh. At present Rapid is in competition with Swift Dzire from Maruti, Etios from Toyota and Sunny from Nissan.
