Skoda to launch more SUVs in India, compact SUV to precede the biggie blue SUV

It is after playing its innings with only one SUV which is Skoda Yeti, the Czech car maker Skoda will be launching more SUVs in India soon. The Volkswagen subsidiary currently offers hatchback and sedans other than this sole SUV in India. Recently there were reports that the management board of Volkswagen management has also expressed its intention to launch more SUVs in India. Whereas Skoda is in the process of launching new SUVs, its sole offering in this segment which is priced at Rs 15.50 lakh has few takers. Experts believe that if there are more offerings priced attractively there are bright chances of Skoda SUVs in India.

As per reports, Skoda will be launching both compact SUV and full sized SUV in India and will be thus competing with the SUV bulls such Tata Safari, Mahindra XUV 500 and the likes if it is priced in this segment which is the hottest segment. If Skoda plans to land its new SUV in the price band starting Rs 13-14 lakh then only fate will decide the future. But sensing the sales growth by introducing India specific Skoda Rapid sedan, Skoda knows that if the car is priced well it is accepted well in the country. Entering the compact SUV market which will be hot and hotter with the upcoming compact SUVs such as Maruti XA Alpha.

Recently Eckhard Sholz, VW board member has reportedly said that SUV segment is one of the segment that can produce volumes. He also reiterated that for India, the SUV segment will be the focus for Skoda. Patting Skoda for the success of Yeti in India, Sholz also said that there is always a scope for a smaller SUV than the Yeti. Meanwhile, sources said that the new Skoda SUV for India will be built on the MQB platform which is the most versatile platform.
