Skoda’s compact hatchback Citigo, coming to India
Czech Republic based carmaker; Skoda is planning to launch its new small car Citigo in the country. The compact car was initially planned keeping in mind the auto market in Europe.
In India, Skoda’s first hatchback Fabia hasn’t been able to perform well as expected in the compact car segment, as far as the sales figures are concerned. Hence the company plans to line-up new vehicles in the lower-end market to draw more volumes and strengthen its market share.
Mr. Winfried Vahland, Chairman- Skoda Auto Global stated that the compact car Citigo, which was made for Europe, has a very promising market in India too. He further added that for Skoda, India is one of the most significant markets alongside China and Russia. Mr. Vahland, was in the country to supervise the manufacturing of the forthcoming base level sedan Skoda Rapid.

The company was confident to achieve an increase of 10 percent to 20 percent in the Indian auto market in near future.
The compact car Skoda Citigo, is termed as the smallest and latest presentation from Skoda; the subsidiary of Volkswagen Group. The upcoming vehicle will be unveiled in the Czech domestic market by the end of this year, while in Europe it will be launched in mid of 2012.
According to Mr. Vahland, with the support of parent company Volkswagen the compact car will make way in India. The Citigo will be an inexpensive choice to parent Volkswagen’s Up which is also a compact hatchback car and planned to debut in the auto market in 2012.
Skoda is eyeing a sizable increase in sales in the nation and Skoda compact sedan Rapid is the beginning, the car is developed to favor Indian circumstances and as a result is manufactured at company’s Chakan plant based in Pune. The Compact sedan Rapid will wrestle with Tata Indigo Manza, Volkswagen Vento, Nissan Sunny, Toyota Etios sedan, Ford Fiesta Classic.
