SsangYong to launch 4 new SUVs by 2015, XIV 2 concept unveiled at Geneva
SsangYong Motor Company owned by Indian SUV maker Mahindra will be putting forth four new SUVs in the next three years. Notably, SsangYong Mahindra Rexton and SsangYong Mahindra Korando are the two SUVs by this South Korean car maker that will be launched in India soon. Both these were unveiled at the January Auto Expo 2012 held in New Delhi. The company has unveiled XIV 2, a concept SUV at the Geneva Motor Show. This new SUV will be launched by 2015.

SsangYong has received a fresh thrust in its product line up and future line up after 70 percent of its stake was purchased by Mahindra India last year. In India, SsangYong will be launching the above said SUVs and if there is a good response, it will be producing these cars in India thus a reduction in price is expected. Mahindra has also planned to make India the export hub for these SUVs. As per sources, an under four meter SUV other than these two is also on the cards.

SsangYong Motor Company President and CEO Yoo II Lee reportedly told media at the Geneva Motor Show that the company is aggressively expanding its operations and there will be addition of four new SUVs in the next three years. The concept SUV SsangYong XIV2 thus unveiled will be ready by 2015 and will then be launched in prominent 25-40 markets of the world. India, China tops the list. The India version of the Ssangyong XIV2 will be an under four meter avatar and will have 1.2L petrol and 1.5L diesel powerplant options. With this, the SUV will qualify for excise benefits and that will be further transferred to the SUV buyers in India that are increasing day by day commensurate with the growing population of SUV buyers worldwide.
