Tata denies reports of dropping Tata Indica

Tata Motors flagship car Tata Indica will remain in its fleet as always and is not in the process of being phased out. Tata Motors has said in a statement released to the media refuting a report that claims that it is going to clean its portfolio and old models will be de-emphasized. In fact, Tata said that it will be further refreshing its portfolio and said that it has already launched improved models of the car such as Tata Indica eV2 that delivers an exceptional mileage of 25 kmpl in diesel. Notably, the recent report certainly has taken the industry by storm as discontinuing its best selling car – Tata Indica would be an unwise decision on Tata’s part.

Tata has also reportedly said that it will further refresh its cars with changes that will be commensurate with the technology available and the needs of the consumers. With this announcement, it seems that Tata has new plans for its cars in India and Tata Nano small car, Tata Indica/Indica Vista hatchback, Tata Indigo/Indigo Manza sedan, Tata Sumo, Tata Aria and Tata Safari SUV are all indispensible part and jewels of its presence in India. Thus leaving one or the other is out of question.

Meanwhile, Tata has also clarified that the Sanand plant will continue to build Tata Nanos and there are no immediate plans to have some other car built there. Besides this no other car will be shifted to the Sanand plant as of now. Notably, there were reports coming in that Tata could shift production of some of its cars to Sanand. Also, with Tata Nano sales catching up in March and crossing the benchmark of 10,000 units, it is expected that it will be able to completely utilize the capacity of 2.5 lakh cars annually. Amidst this, Tata has also made it clear that it is not planning a new marquee that will be sharing either platform of technology of Tata and Jaguar Land Rover vehicles.
