Tata Indica XL, more legroom, more mileage, more power in the offing
Tata Indica XL, the stretched version of Tata’s flagship car is undergoing rigorous tests in and around Pune recently. But still there is no official word from the car maker regarding the Tata Indica XL launch. As per the latest information regarding the new Tata hatchback in the making, the new Indica XL will be inheriting a lot of features from its sedan version Tata Indigo eCS. Besides the headlamps and grille, there are a lot of features that are expected to be shared by the Indica XL and Indigo eCS. Based on the frequency of the rounds of testing, it is believed that the Indica XL launch could be near, may be in coming months.

Significantly Tata Indica is still the entry level hatchback in India after Tata Nano and doing something new with it means that offering the customers a more lucrative car to buy. Lately, there have been reports suggesting that the Indica XL will take the contours of its long body Tata Indigo XL that has a big sized boot and a large legroom inside. If the Indica XL takes the proportions then expect the Indica to have similar space inside the car. Besides, both the Indigo XL and Indica are a big hit in the taxicab market despite of the spoilsport by Maruti Swift Dzire and Mahindra Verito. If the Indica XL gets the Indigo XL dimensions, obviously in hatchback proportions then no one seems to stop it from becoming a big hit again.

As per sources, the Indica XL is expected to have a 1.4L CRDi engine with turbo power under the bonnet which will also be stretched a little compared to the existing models of Indica. The engine produces 70 bhp of power and a peak torque of 140 Nm which is sufficient for a car of this proportion. This engine is tried and tested in the Tata Indica eV2 and Indigo eCS. Another speculation regarding the engine configuration is the CR4 engine which marks high fuel economy.
