Tata Motors sales decline by 51 percent in Dec 2012

One of the largest car makers in India, Tata Motors didn’t have a good sales record in Dec 2012. It’s the world’s 18th biggest car maker and sold only 65582 units last month, which was a bit of disappointing for the car maker. From this figure, the domestic sales of commercial and passenger vehicles managed to capture about 61700 units of sales, whereas 3882 units were exported. The total sales of Tata Motors during the financial year were around 613750 units.

If we look into the passenger vehicle segment for Tata Motors, the sales stood up to 14185 units in December 2012. This figure was 28916 units in December 2011, which shows a great downfall. However, on the other hand, its new introductions, Tata Safari Storme and Tata Manza Club Class are doing fairly well in the Indian car bazaar. The demand for Tata Safari Storme was quite impressive and that’s why this bold and masculine SUV was launched in Uttar Pradesh, NCR Region, Punjab, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Goa and Chhattisgarh and is expanding gradually.

Talking about other cars, the sales of Tata Nano, Tata Indica and Tata Indigo stood around 11257 units; while Tata Sumo, Tata Safari, Tata Aria and Tata venture sales were approximately 2928 units. The overall sales of passenger vehicles were seen with 183977 units.

The exports of Tata Motor cars this time were pretty decent. The company export sales were about 3882 units in December 2012, while the overall sales seen from the exports in the fiscal year stood around 39403 units. Tata Motors was not the only firm, which saw a decline in the sales figures. Toyota Kirloskar Motors also saw a bit of downfall in its December 2012 sales, but the cumulative growth was seen prominently.
