Tata Safari Storme coming soon to rival Mahindra XUV500

Tata Safari Storme, one of the much awaited Sports Utility Vehicles in the Indian market, is expected to be launched in the country very soon. The SUV enthusiasts in the India have been eagerly waiting for the roll-out of this vehicle since the company had first showcased it at the Delhi International Auto Expo in the starting of this year.

With the launch of Safari Storme, the company is looking forward to rival the Mahindra’s latest XUV 500 model that has been achieving a runaway success in the Indian market. The upcoming Safari Storme will be carrying additional off-road capabilities and is expected to be positioned in higher price segment as compared to the existing Safari model.

The Safari Storme is claimed to be having upper hand over the XUV500 in terms of off-road capabilities. The SUV will be carrying a body-on-ladder frame structure which is quite different as compared to Mahindra XUV 500’s monocoque structure. Moreover, Tata’s Safari Storme is blessed with low ratio 4X4 gearbox, which is absent in the Mahindra’s MUV. However, it remains to be seen that what strategy company adopts in promoting the Safari Storme as a strong off - roader against the XUV 500.

The existing 2.2 Liter DICOR common rail turbo diesel engine is expected to be retained in the upcoming models also, delivering a peak power of 140 bhp along with a peak torque of 320 Nm. However, the transmission system (G76 Mark II five speed gearbox) of the vehicle will to be completely upgraded for better performance.

Both exterior and interior of the Safari Storme carry a number of changes on cosmetic and designing fronts. The trademark tailgate mounted spare wheel will now be residing on floor pan of rear portion. Other major changes at the exterior include newly designed grill, projector headlamps and bumper at front, a wider side foot step, etc. Inside, the major upgrades include new steering borrowed from Aria MUV, newly designed dashboard and central console and many more.
