Toyota Fortuner gets a new 2.5 liter diesel engine
Auto-giant, Toyota has introduced Fortuner SUV with a 2.5 liter turbo diesel inline in Malaysia. This new in-line is very smaller than its previous 3.0 D-4D engine but it has potential to churn same amount of torque with increased fuel efficiency. Specialty of Malaysia-spec Toyota Fortuner engine is availability of variable geometry turbocharger and intercooler that enable it to churn same amount of torque i.e. 343 Nm, like its 3.0 liter diesel engine.Statistically, the power of this new 2.5 turbo diesel engine has gone down to 143 Bhp at a decreased rev range at 3400 rpm, however the torque from this smaller engine remains the same, i.e.343 Nm with raised rev range from 1600 to 2800 rpm. Therefore, you can certainly expect that this all new 2.5 liter turbo diesel engine would avail better drivability along with better fuel efficiency.
Researchers across the globe are looking forward to develop engines that deliver raised fuel efficiency with similar amount of torque caliber. Fortuner with 2.5 Liter D-4D turbo diesel engine has arrived at a right time to retrieve the throne with raised fuel economy when it has got rivals like Hyundai Santa Fe
powered with smaller engine with better fuel economy. It would be interesting to see whether Toyota India brings this 2.5 Liter D-4D turbo diesel engine on the domestic shores, next year with the face-lifted version of this off-roader.
