This base trim is expected to be Toyota’s attempt to counter rising popularity of Hyundai Elantra and Honda Civic.
Now that Honda has decided to imbibe diesel power in its lineup of cars soon, it seems that introduction of Altis Diesel base version with new features will be like capturing the market before the rival Civic Diesel arrives. In addition to these features, the J(S) model of Altis also has a all the features that the J trim had. The price of the J(S) petrol is Rs 11.74 lakh while that of J(S) Diesel is Rs 13.16 lakh. Both these cars have the same diesel and petrol engine options and are powered by the same 1.4 L D-4D diesel and 1.8 L petrol engine respectively.
In the new trim, except for the major difference of audio controls & MID switch on steering wheel, silver finish door handles, leather seats, dark wood finish on centre cluster and door armrests, almost all other features of the L Grade are there. Just like the L Grade, the new trim has electrically adjustable ORVMs with turn signals on them. The major difference is that where just like the J trim, the J(S) too has steel wheels while the L grade has alloy wheels.
