VRV Sriprasad from Bharat Benz switches as managing director of Volvo India operations
VRV Sriprasad, one of the key persons behind establishing the Bharat Benz brand in India is shifting to Volvo's India subsidiary as the managing director of the company. ET learns, the announcement is to be made in the coming days. ET could not reach Sriprasad for his comments, and Volvo Buses India did not respond to an email query.
He will take over the position from current MD Manish Sahi, who will take another position in the group. Sriprasad, who announced his departure from DICV last month as vice president, marketing, sales and after sales will assume a much larger role at Volvo Buses India as the head of operation for the brand in the India and the SAARC region. Unlike the others, he will oversee a relatively smaller operation of 250-300 people at Volvo Buses India in Bangalore. He will have a challenging task of reviving the Volvo Buses India operation, which is facing the brunt of a slowdown much like other CV segment. The sales of Volvo Buses in India in 2013 declined over 40% to almost 450 units.
Sriprasad a commercial vehicle veteran started his career at Eicher in 1986 and after spending over two decades at the Delhi headquartered company, Sriprasad took up the challenging job of establishing Bharat Benz brand in 2008. He was a key member of the team that was instrumental in driving key strategies for DICV through the critical project phase. He was also closely involved with the development of product strategies and the setting-up of the dealership network. When he left the company, DICV had already climbed to number four positions in the medium to heavy duty truck space. And DICV also earned a reputation of being the fastest company to cross 10,000 units within just 2-2.5 years of operation.
