War of Dominance Between MSIL and HMIL Stir’s Indian Auto Market
Establishment of Maruti Suzuki India Limited was a milestone in Indian automotive industry with MSIL creating new milestones by launching huge fleet of various illustrative cars in Indian car market, setting down new standards for successful launch of new cars in Indian market. This had played an incredible role in strengthening roots of MSIL in market and dominating Indian market for such a long period. Maruti’s dominance was challenged by Korean auto giant Hyundai Motors which completely changed the scenario by introducing fuel efficient and superior performance cars that are best matched to Indian conditions and thus becoming the second largest producer of cars in country.
The main reasons behind the huge success of both MSIL and HMIL have been their cars in hatchback segment which have played an incredible role in determining their dominance in India. It would be interested to know that as soon as any new model is launched by MSIL at same time same type of model is launched by HMIL based on same platform. For instance Maruti Alto 800 is strong contender of Eon from Hyundai and various others.
It would be interested to know that although there exists tough competition between both the giants but still Maruti is miles ahead from Hyundai Motors due to various reasons. The most important reason is Maruti’s long inning in Indian market, whereas on other side Hyundai had made its debut in India in 1990. Apart from this Maruti holds strong grip on expectations of Indian customers, with this it has huge sales and service network located in almost every corner of country.
Moving ahead no doubt Hyundai has progressed well in India but still its production number lags behind MSIL. Of-course HMIL has succeeded in minimizing the difference between both companies by introducing superior quality vehicles competing to vehicles launched by Maruti. Recently when Maruti introduced improved version of Wagon R as Wagon R Stingray, based on same grounds Hyundai launched Hyundai Grand i10. Hyundai Grand i10 is considered as the mix version of Hyundai i10 and i20. It would be interested to know that both these models have received warm welcome from customers and this again grabbed attention of industry experts who are keeping strict watch on performance of both these models. The war of dominance will get more difficult in coming future with both companies speculating to launch diesel variants of their models soon in Indian market.
