The world’s first Hydrogen powered three-wheeler ‘HyAlfa’ has been unwrapped at 2012 Auto Expo Delhi, which is an outcome of the joint-venture of Mahindra & Mahindra, United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) and IIT Delhi.

The General Manager of Mahindra & Mahindra R&D Center, Mathew Abraham said that HyAlfa is a unique vehicle runs on compressed hydrogen gas producing zero emissions. The hydrogen technology is an enduring solution for the energy security, CO2 emission and pollution.

However, it’s not prepared for the commercial production and further modifications are required before moving ahead. Company will precisely study the commercial viability of this hydrogen powered three-wheeler due to its higher running cost, he added further. Mahindra & Mahindra has also demonstrated 15 HyAlfa three-wheeler prototypes, which will be run inside Pragati Maidan for the purpose of better exhibition. Apart from this innovative vehicle, the company also put on display the Mahindra Reva NXR, Mahindra XUV 500, Mahindra Xylo, Mahindra Thar, Mahindra Rexton and Mahindra Korando.

The most alluring fact about HyAlfa is its emission from tailpipe doesn’t make any pollution complain. If words to be believed, the exclusively new and innovative HyAlfa will be around Rs.25, 000 more expensive than the currently available CNG powered three-wheeler.

This all new invention is just a prototype and has been said to be commercially produced not so soon, as currently lot work has to be done, but seeing the huge positive response from the visitors and industry experts, company might speed up its process.
