Tata Motors ventured into the passenger car segment in 1991 with the launch of Tata Sierra, a multi utility vehicle. After Tata Sierra, Tata India launched three more passenger cars in India which included Tata Estate a station wagon design conceived on Tata Mobile an LCV which was inducted in 1992, Tata Sumo (1994) and Tata Safari launched in 1998. Tata cars in India are highly popular and offer excellent fuel efficiency. The aggressively tagged Tata car prices make the versatile Tata cars extremely affordable and hence have an edge over its competitors. On March 27, 2008 Tata inked a deal with Ford and acquired their Jaguar and land Rover operations for a staggering US$2.3 billion. Also the company pioneered in the small car segment by launching the cheapest car in the world, Tata Nano. Various Tata cars like Sumo Victa, Sumo Grande, Safari, Indica eV2, Indica Vista, Indigo eCS, Manza, Nano and Aria are currently being sold in India.
