Family Z codenamed as FAM Z is a General Motor specific range of common rail diesel engines since 2010. The engine line manufactured by GM Korea is sported in various models like Chevrolet Captiva, Chevrolet Orlando, and Chevrolet Malibu (not in India) along with Chevrolet Cruze. The new Chevrolet Cruze is stuffed with FAM Z 2.0 litre engine that generates maximum power of 166 PS at 3800 rpm and peak torque of 380 Nm at 2000 rpm, enabling Chevy Cruze to accelerate from 0 to 100 kmph in less than 9 secs. The company has introduced new Cruze with latest FAM Z engine in June 2012 in India in order to boost its sales of this D segment sedan car.

Chevrolet Cruze was the highest selling Chevrolet’s car in first quarter of 2012 throughout the world. Though being a sedan, Chevrolet Cruze has all elements of a sports car. The diesel rocket features high-performance common rail fuel injection system, chain-driven DOHC valvetrain with hydraulic tensioners, twin balance shafts in the oil pump and electronically-controlled variable-geometry turbocharger with intercooler.
