Maruti is a favourite car brand in India which has gained immense popularity ever since its debut in the domestic market. The Indo Japanese firm is known for its hatchbacks, if it is Maruti people will blindly vouch for its low maintenance and frugality. One such hatchback that has been able to besot Indian customers is Maruti Swift premium hatchback. The popularity remains intact; it is a high selling model in the B segment which became a household name when it made its debut in 2005. The diesel variant was launched later in domestic market that has seen surge in sales of late.

Fluctuating petrol prices have led to a high sale of the diesel variant, since diesel variants come with a little high price tag, Maruti Swift LDI, the base version of the hatchback is quite an attention grabber at the Maruti showrooms. Being a premium hatchback, Maruti Swift LDI price is quite affordable, however many features have been excluded to shed the price. The 1248 cc diesel engine under the hood does its duty. This 1.3 litre DDiS diesel m ill has been borrowed by the Italian car maker Fiat. With a capacity to pump out maximum power of 75 PS at 4000 Rpm complimenting a peak torque of 190 Nm at 2000 Rpm, Maruti Swift LDI is definitely worth buying.

An excellent fuel economy of 19 kmpl in city conditions adds on to the list of goodies of this hatch. Cherry on the top is the 22.9 kmpl fuel efficiency offered by the hatchback on highways making it a perfect small car to run on highways. Within 14.8 seconds the car sprints from 0 to 100 and achieves a top speed of 154 kmph. List of features that could not make it to the interiors of the hatchback is a bit long and hence this is one big reason behind the affordable price if the LDI variant. Power windows are absent in front as well as rear side of the hatchback, alloy wheels, CD player are the rest of the comfort features which are absent in the LDI variant. Among the safety features, driver airbag, front passenger airbag, anti-lock brake system and even central locking is not proffered. Air conditioner, power steering cup holders (in front and rear) remote trunk, remote fuel lid opener are the only comfort features that are available in Maruti Swift LDI.

I have been driving the Swift LDi for more than a year and it has been a great pleasure being its owner. First of all, the fuel economy of my Swift is good. It gives mileage of 17 – 18 kmpl which is better than the diesel Ford Figo. The 1.3 liter petrol engine has got great power which allows this hatchback....
