The compact SUV segment in India that is going all guns blazing at present, and is sighting a prosperous future ahead, initially came to limelight with the launch of Premier Rio mini SUV. The mantra of Premier Automobiles Limited (PAL) was to develop a cost effective compact SUV that fulfills the needs and requirements of urban car buyers. In the year 2012 the company displayed a very modern looking Premier Rio at the Auto Expo that received many appreciations by the onlookers and experts. It now had amazing SUV-like exteriors and improved interiors and was offered in choice of petrol and diesel fuel. Apart from changes in looks the under hood mechanism was also tweaked for better performance and mileage. In the portfolio, Premier Rio LX is the best available choice for someone looking to go for a low budget sporty diesel vehicle.

The exterior design of Rio is spanking new as it sheds away the boxy looking and outdated one. It actually dresses up in a very fresh styling and dares to compete with other compact vehicles available in the segment. The front part is the most appealing with Honda CR-V like grille that has chrome slat and in the middle is chrome company logo giving out wonderful sight. The newly shaped headlamps are broad, moreover the twin body colored front bumper that houses new circular fog lamps provides a very attractive yet muscular stance. The sides have blacked B-pillar, stylish roof rails and the ORVMs come with dashing integrated side indictors along with solid alloys. The rear gets new tail lamp cluster, inspired by Ford Endeavour mounted at good height for perfect visibility. The mounted spare wheel provides and rear spoiler give-out a sporty stance to Premier Rio, while the curved bumper with rear fog lamps add elegance.

The interiors are quite spacious, which one cannot imagine while gazing at the compact exterior design of Premier Rio. The overall quality of the material around is acceptable considering the affordable Premier Rio LX price tag. There is adequate comfort for 5 occupants inside the cabin along with huge cargo space, to get more space the rear seat comes with 50:50 folding. The front and rear head restraints are adjustable, while the feature of cup holder in console, power steering, remote fuel lid opener and digital clock to provide convenience to the driver. The instrument panel gets tachometer, a decent 3-spoke steering wheel and reverse gear indicator. For engagement of the passengers there is manual AC with heater and music system with CD player and radio. The safety features are ABS with EBD and BA, seat belts, child locks and side impact beams.

The 1.5L, diesel engine generates max power of 64.8 PS at 4000 rpm and 152 Nm of peak torque at 2250-3000 rpm. The mileage is pretty good with 13 kmpl in city and 16 kmpl on the highways, whereas Rio accelerates 0-100kph in only 15 seconds with a top speed of 145 kmph.

Finally, I came across this boastful Premier Rio LX which is so less priced that I could not resist buying it.
