The short gearing conceals turbo-lag to an extent, and you don't feel it as much when driving alone.

About the turbo lag if you are driving alone or there are 3-4 occupants inside the chances of turbo lag are nearly ‘no’, but with full house at slow speeds there will be low-pickup, which gets vanished as soon as it catches up 1800rpm it drives worry free. On the other hand, up till 2000rpm you will find turbo lag in Renault Duster Diesel too after the needle crosses this mark things turn fine. The other part of your question is price, utility and maintenance.

Price: Both the vehicles are properly priced with Rs 7.99-11.29 Lakh for Renault Duster Diesel models, whilst Ertiga is 7.29-8.44 Lakh for diesel version. If deeply looked upon Ertiga offers a bit more value for your money.

Utility: The compact MPV carries more utility against Duster. As the last two rows can be folded to make huge cargo space alongside it can hold 7 people at one go in comparison to mini SUVs five occupants. But yes, on the performance part, Duster walks way ahead of Ertiga.

Maintenance: One the USPs for Maruti cars have been its low maintenance and wide spread after sales service network, here not only Renault lacks but every other carmaker struggles.
