As part of its "140 Years, 140 Places" initiative, Mercedes-Benz drove a German-specification S-Class V8 from Srinagar to Leh. The luxury sedan completed the demanding high-altitude journey using HPCL's Speed95 petrol, a premium 95 RON E20 fuel containing up to 20% ethanol. Despite steep climbs, changing temperatures and reduced oxygen levels, the S-Class maintained smooth acceleration, refined performance and stable power delivery throughout the trip. The test highlighted that premium E20 fuel can meet the requirements of a sophisticated V8 engine without compromising the driving experience.

 

Research Octane Number (RON) measures a fuel's resistance to engine knocking. High-performance engines, including those used in luxury cars, require higher-octane petrol for efficient combustion and optimum performance. India's 95 RON E20 fuel combines higher octane with ethanol blending, helping reduce emissions while ensuring compatibility with modern petrol engines. Mercedes-Benz has confirmed that all its BS VI petrol models are certified to run on E20 fuel, provided the recommended fuel specifications are followed.
