FASTag Annual Pass: Unused Trips & Refund Rules

FASTag Annual Pass: Unused Trips & Refund Rules

The FASTag Annual Pass has become a useful option for private vehicle owners who frequently travel on National Highways and National Expressways. For the financial year 2026–27, the annual pass costs ₹3,075 and remains valid for one year or 200 toll-plaza crossings, whichever comes first. However, many motorists have questions about what happens when the validity period ends or when some of the allotted trips remain unused.

No Refund for Unused Trips

The FASTag Annual Pass is based on either a time limit or a trip limit. If the pass expires after one year while some of the 200 permitted crossings are still unused, those remaining trips do not carry forward to the next year. Similarly, once the 200-trip limit is reached, the annual pass ends even if one year has not been completed. Users then need to purchase or renew the pass if they want to continue using the facility. NHAI has stated that the pass is designed for one year or 200 crossings, whichever comes first.

What Happens When the Pass Ends?

After the annual pass expires or the permitted crossings are exhausted, the FASTag returns to its normal functionality. Users can then recharge their FASTag wallet and pay applicable toll charges as they normally would. The annual pass is linked to the vehicle and is non-transferable. It is intended for eligible non-commercial vehicles with a valid FASTag.

Refund Rules You Should Know

Motorists should also understand that unused trips are not treated like a refundable balance. If the annual pass is revoked because the vehicle no longer meets the applicable conditions, the remaining trips are not refunded. Therefore, frequent highway users should consider their expected travel before purchasing the pass. It can be particularly relevant for people who regularly use covered National Highways and National Expressways.

The FASTag Annual Pass can be purchased through the Rajmargyatra app or the NHAI website. With the revised ₹3,075 fee for 2026–27, checking the covered toll plazas and expected travel frequency can help vehicle owners understand how the pass will fit their travel needs.
