The national e-Challan platform is an initiative of the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) and provides services for checking challan status, paying challans, downloading challan information and raising grievances.

An e-challan may be issued for various traffic violations, depending on applicable laws and state-specific enforcement rules. Common examples include:

Step 5: Select Get Details or the relevant search option.

 

The system can then display available challan information, including the violation and payment status. The official platform also provides options for downloading challan information and checking transactions.

Once you have checked the challan details and confirmed that the information is correct, you can use the payment option available through the official portal.

Online payment is convenient, but offline options may also be available depending on the authority and type of challan. If required, you can contact or visit the appropriate traffic police or transport authority and follow the prescribed payment procedure. Ignoring an e-challan does not make the underlying violation disappear. Unpaid challans may remain pending and can lead to further enforcement or legal proceedings depending on the applicable rules and circumstances. Digital traffic enforcement has also created opportunities for fraudsters to send fake challan messages and payment links. The official e-Challan portal specifically warns users about fraudulent websites and mobile applications impersonating its services.

To stay safe:

• Avoid clicking suspicious payment links received through unsolicited messages.

• Do not install unknown applications sent through SMS or messaging platforms.

• Never share OTPs, passwords, UPI PINs or other sensitive banking information with anyone.
