BMW to launch Mini Cooper by the end of this year

June 3, 2014: German luxurious car maker BMW has confirmed that it will launch its Mini Cooper in Indian car market by the end of this year, after launching 7 Series Active Hybrid and i8. The car was unveiled last year in the month of November at Cowley plant in Oxford, UK. It is expected to be launched in two variants namely Cooper and Cooper S variant with Cooper empowered with 134 bhp 1.5 litre engine while the Cooper S would be energized with 189 bhp 2.0 litre petrol engine. Both the engines will be coated with six speed automatic gearbox.

November 22, 2013: Luxurious car maker BMW has announced that soon it will launch the modified version of Mini Cooper in Indian car market to fuel the competition in segment of luxurious cars in Indian car market. As compared to existing version of Mini Cooper the new Mini will be fuel efficient and larger in size followed by some impressive features.

BMW Mini Cooper is a European small luxury cars that is currently owned by German auto giant BMW. In a bid to enhance its market share in the Indian auto market, BMW India is all set to launch Mini Cooper in the country by early next year in the price segment of Rs 18 to 25 lakh. The car will be rolled out in petrol version only comprising of 6 variants – Cooper One, Cooper, Cooper S, Cooper Cabrio, Cooper Coupe and Cooper Countryman.

Finding its roots in Britain about 50 years back, the BMW Mini Cooper has been owned by a number of international luxury car makers, before finally coming to BMW. After initially made by British Motor Corporation in 1959, the Mini Cooper featured in the popular 1969 film – The Italian Job – and the new generation Mini was arguably a star in the remake of this movie in year 2003.

The launch of BMW Mini Cooper will mark the entry of another iconic European car in the Indian market as the car like Volkswagen Beetle and Fiat 500 have already marked their debut in the Indian auto market. While the base variant Cooper One is expected to be priced at Rs 18 lakh, the top end model will possibly be carrying a price tag of Rs 25 lakh. With the launch of Mini Cooper, BMW is looking to maintain its supremacy in the Indian auto market; rivals like Mercedes Benz and Audi have already firmed-up their plans to launch lower priced luxury cars in the country.

The BMW Mini Cooper is expected to be offered in a petrol version only which will come powered by a 1.6L, 1598 CC petrol engine. The powerful engine of the BMW Mini is capable of delivering a peak power of 120 Bhp @ 6000 rpm along with a maximum torque of 160 Nm @ 4250 rpm. A Six speed manual transmission system is expected to be offers as standard across all variants. A lower priced 1.4L version of the car is also expected to be launched with peak power of 75 bhp and peak torque of 160 Nm.

The BMW Mini Cooper will be offered in two-door coupe, four-door sedan and crossover versions in the country a site variation in features. The major attractions at the exterior of the car will include a unique front and rear profile, 15 inch alloy wheels, LED taillights, and many more.

The light weight of the car will enable it achieve excellent fuel economy, and it can prove USP of the car in the mileage conscious markets like India.

BMW Mini Cooper Models and Features

As mentioned above, the BMW Mini Cooper will be offered in six variants, which are enlisted below.

BMW Mini Cooper One	This is expected to be Mini Cooper lowest priced variant which will come powered by a 1.4L, 1398 CC petrol engine that will be capable of delivering a peak power of 75 bhp. The model come loaded with a range of standard features of Mini series of cars including body colored bumpers, alloy wheels, LED taillights, xenon headlamps, multiple trip meters, parking sensors, fog lamps, ABS with EBD, all power windows, power steering, central locking, rear wiper, washer and defogger, and many more.
BMW Mini Cooper	This will be the base model of 1.6L engine version of the car that will offer a peak power of 120 bhp along with a peak torque of 160 Nm. The Major attractions of the car will include 15 inch alloy wheels, parking sensors, four airbags, music system, electrically folding OSVRMs, folding rear seats, steering mounted controls for volume and cruise and many more.
BMW Mini Cooper S	This is expected to be the second from the base model will be powered by the same engine. However, the power output of the car is expected to be higher at 184 bhp. The Mini Cooper S will carry all features that will be offered in base variant. The additional features of the car will possibly include AC with climate control, an advanced music system with Bluetooth streaming etc.
BMW Mini Cooper Cabrio	This will be a roadster version of the car carrying the same engine as Cooper S hatchback, besides a lower engine power of 120 bhp. Besides having all features available in Cooper S model, the Cooper Cabrio is expected to carry a few additional features including a foldable top, optional leather seats etc.
BMW Mini Cooper Coupe	This will be a two-door coupe version of the car that will be blessed with a classy interior and sporty seating arrangement. Most of the features of the car will be same as Cooper S model besides 2- seats instead of four, multiple airbags, sportier dashboard etc. The engine will be delivering a similar output as in Cabrio model.
BMW Mini Cooper Countryman	This will be the top end four seater version of the Mini Cooper in the Indian auto market with more luxurious interiors and additional safety features including Electronic Stability Program (ESP), additional airbags for passengers, electric sunroof, Auto headlamps, auto wiper, and many more. Power output of the car is expected to be moderately higher at 121 bhp.

All variants of the BMW Mini Cooper will be carrying a six speed manual transmission gearbox as standard. However, the company may decide to offer a few of them in both manual and automatic transmission options.

BMW Mini Cooper Engine, Power and Performance

As we have already mentioned above, the BMW Mini Cooper is expected to be offered in two petrol engine options.

1.4 Litre Petrol Engine

The lowest priced BMW Mini Cooper One is expected to be powered by a 1.4L, 1398 CC petrol engine that will have a total output of 75 bhp @ 4500 rpm along with a peak torque of 160 Nm @ 4250 rpm.

1.6 Litre Petrol Engine

The Mini Cooper Base model will also be available in a 1.6L petrol engine option. The powerful will be the Mini Cooper 1.6L with a peak power of 120 bhp @ 6000 rpm along with a peak torque of 160 Nm @ 4250 rpm.

Two other models like Mini Cooper Cabrio, Coupe and Countryman will be powered by the same 1.6L engine used in the base model. While the power output of the Cabrio and Coupe variant will be 120 bhp @ 6000 rpm along with a peak torque of 160 Nm @ 4250 rpm.

The most powerful in the BMW Mini Cooper series of cars will be Mini Cooper S which will be carrying a 1.6L engine and will be delivering a massive peak power of 184 Bhp @ 5500 rpm and a maximum torque of 240 Nm @ 1600 rpm.

All variants of the Mini Cooper will be incorporating a six speed manual transmission system. The mileage of the car is expected to be in the range of 12 to 16 km per liter in the Indian road conditions.

The BMW Mini Cooper Cabrio model is expected to be priced at Rs 22-23 lakh. The Coupe version of the car – Mini Cooper Coupe – is expected to be the second most expensive car in India bound BMW Mini Series at Rs 24 lakh. The top end model will be the Mini Cooper Countryman that is expected to be priced at Rs 25 lakh.
