Hyundai i10 Rivals

The long living inaugural compact city car from the Korean carmaker Hyundai i10 has now stepped up to compete with new kid on the block, Honda Brio. Over the years, Hyundai i10 has build up a unique and commanding attachment with car buyers in India. Both the compact hatchbacks cars suit the city conditions well. Inside i10, there are features like advanced music player with aux-in, USB and CD player, tiltable steering and OVRMs mounted side-indicators. More or less same aspects are available in Brio too, with an altogether fresh get-up, which is really appealing. However, the premium distinctive element of ‘Sunroof’ in i10, a segment first, cannot be ignored.

Here Honda Brio has the potential to become a capable segment leader, but it cannot wipe-off the trust and reliability stature of Hyundai i10 of its fans in India at one go. Honda Brio responds to ‘Sunroof’ with full glass boot lid at rear, which makes the young blood overwhelmed. The performance by the petrol power trains of the two, are cut-to-cut, while Hyundai i10 goes very well on the highways, together with Brio coming handy in city drives.  The safety features consist of Anti-lock Brake System (ABS) and dual SRS airbags among others in i10, whereas Japanese hatch has all these functions accompanied by Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD).

This strappy and energetic engine easily produces peak power of 80 PS at the rate of 5200 rpm along with 112 Nm of crest torque at the rate of 4000 rpm. The engine here is successful in delivering high performance on road and makes the drive much smooth and comfortable of the driver.

Hyundai i10 features1.2 litre of Kappa engine that has VTVT technology, which makes the engine extremely fuel efficient and doesn’t burn a hole in your pocket. On our drive, we noticed that the power delivered by the engine, which was 80 PS pushed the car to perform well on road and the five speed manual gearbox enhanced the fuel economy figures. The car delivers a handsome fuel economy of 18 km per litre.

Hyundai i10 is a perfect and ideal performer on road and with 1.2 litre of Kappa engine, the drive gets better and much smoother, even the stability of the car has been improved substantially. The NVH or noise, vibration and harshness levels have been refined further, but sadly the engine gets a bit anxious above 100 km per hour. The steering wheel is quite responsive and it will help you to glide with utter smoothness from heavy traffic situations. The brakes are much better and sharp as compared to the older Hyundai i10 model. The five speed manual transmission coupled with the engine is efficient and has been positioned smartly to provide complete comfort to the driver. The gearshift indicators are present to indicate you when to change the gears, which in turn ensures higher fuel efficiency.

Hyundai i10 Sun Roof and Moon Roof PictureHyundai i10 has an impressive acceleration and pickup. The 1.2 litre of Kappa engine produces 80 PS of peak power with 112 Nm of peak torque. When accelerated, the car gears up with a top speed of 159 km per hour and touch the 100 km per hour speed mark in 14.12 seconds. Hyundai i10 featuring automatic gearbox has a top speed of 147 km per hour and hits the ton in just 18.44 seconds. So, we could say that the acceleration and pickup of Hyundai i10 is impressive and the hatchback comes out to be a no nonsense hatchback in the market today.

The braking and handling of new Hyundai i10 is just stupendous. Our little road test on Hyundai i10 proved to be very smooth and nice. The suspension system fitted in the hatchback has been customized to go through rough and rugged Indian terrains and it is certainly successful in providing a very leveled and bumps free ride indeed. The steering is responsive. Driving with this steering wheel surely makes the drive very enthusiastic and excited. The brakes are top-notch and the presence of anti lock braking system makes the braking system much more advanced. Overall, we can say that Hyundai i10 Kappa hatchback is one of the best hatchbacks in the market today, which is not only a pleasure in driving but is also easy on pocket.

Hyundai i10 Conclusion

On the whole, the Hyundai i10 is a complete power-packed package and one of the best available choices in the hatchback segment. But one cannot forget, that the competition has taken a tough ask from the company as consumers are now more attracted towards the facelifts and new launches of the vehicles in India. Hence in order to stay in this solid contender ship, change is necessary from time to time. No doubt, the solid build, quality interior aspects, refined engine choices make it favorable in the hatchback segment, but still an upgrade is the need of hour for Hyundai i10.

At the time, when it was initially launched, it took the market by flutter because there was not much of rivalry around and it had a separate and fresh identity of its own between the stereotypical small cars in India. Hyundai i10 is amazing in city road conditions along with it holds decent composure when of highways because of its compact design. The petrol run iRDE engine more refined compared to any challengers. The USP of Hyundai i10’S electric power steering makes you feel heaven at crowded city environment.  There are full marks to Hyundai when it comes to reliability and solid built of the car, especially when other carmakers are offering with product with cheap material and delicate looking exteriors.
