With the influx of SUVs gushing into the Indian car market, car makers are now plucking lucrative models from their global bouquet to enter the arena of the most thriving auto market, India. India, which only had a couple of auto giants trying their luck in the sluggish auto market few years ago, now has a stack of auto makers putting an effort to make a place for themselves in the domestic market. There is a majority of Japanese auto maker who have established a little place in the hearts of Indian customer.
One such Japanese auto maker, Toyota Motors India is now jumping into the most flourishing segments of Indian car market, the SUV segment. Toyota currently has premium SUV Toyota Fortuner SUV in its bunch of offerings, however it is now contemplating to bring a competitively priced SUV, Toyota Rush which is on sale in some of global markets.
Toyota Rush price in India is anticipated to be in the range of Rs 10 lakh. Toyota is known for rendering premium and high priced cars, the only low priced vehicles is has launched in India are the Etios twins. Etios sedan and Etios Liva were developed explicitly for domestic market. The price difference between Etios sedan and other Toyota vehicles like Corolla and Innova lies between Rs 2 lakh to Rs 4 lakh. The company, however, is thinking to bring in a vehicle to fill this slot. Toyota Rush SUV launch in India could be expected around mid 2014, the company has even commenced the viability study for the launch of SUV in India. Auto aficionados believe that Toyota Rush could come fitted with a 1.4 litre D4-D diesel powertrain, which is currently powering Corolla Altis premium sedan. While the petrol variant could be packed with 1.4 litre petrol motor this is also seen in India specific Etios twins.
Toyota Rush is already on sale in some of the countries in the overseas market; it is launched as the second generation model of Daihatsu Terios, which is a mini SUV. The Indian customers are anticipated to get the third generation model of Terios. Countries like Japan, Chile, Turkey, Malaysia and China currently have the SUV and India is the next auto market to get the SUV. Not many details have been unfolded about the upcoming car in India, Rush. It is still not clear whether the SUV will be a five seater or a seven seater, though both the versions are offered in the Malaysian market.
The compact SUV segment is growing rapidly and has couple of offerings available for grabs which includes the recently launched Renault Duster. Apart from Duster some other compact SUVs will be joining in which includes, Ford Ecosport and Maruti XA Alpha. Other than new models, car majors are also working in the reworked versions of their existing SUVs. The SUVs were even exhibited at the grandiose event of 11th Auto Expo organized at the Pragati Maidan, in New Delhi earlier in January. From being known as a hub for hatchbacks, Indian car market is skewing towards compact SUVs.
