A Dutch Resident Ships Mahindra Thar To The Netherlands
A Mahindra Thar that once cruised through the streets of Bengaluru and highways across India has found a new home in the Netherlands. The unusual journey began when Dutch aerospace engineer Rob Bosgraaf decided to take more than just memories back home after completing his stay in India. Bosgraaf and his wife spent several years exploring India in their Mahindra Thar, using the SUV for numerous road trips across different states. During their time in Bengaluru, the vehicle became an important part of their adventures, helping them experience the country's diverse landscapes, cultures, and destinations.

When it was time to return to Amsterdam, the couple chose not to sell the SUV. Instead, they arranged for the vehicle to be shipped from India to the Netherlands. The decision reflected the strong emotional connection they had developed with the Thar and the memories associated with their travels. What makes the story even more interesting is that the SUV retained some of its Indian character after arriving in Europe. A small idol of Lord Ganesha, which had accompanied the couple during their journeys in India, remains on the dashboard. The gesture symbolizes the lasting impact that India had on the family and serves as a reminder of the experiences they enjoyed while living in Bengaluru.
The story has attracted attention because it highlights the growing international appeal of Indian-made vehicles. The Mahindra Thar has earned a reputation for its rugged design, off-road capabilities, and adventurous character. For Bosgraaf, however, the vehicle represented much more than transportation—it was a companion on countless journeys and a cherished souvenir of his life in India. While many expatriates leave India with photographs, gifts, or traditional keepsakes, Bosgraaf's choice to take an entire SUV back to Europe stands out as a unique example of how deeply people can connect with the places they live and the experiences they create. The Thar's journey from Bengaluru to Amsterdam is not just a story about a vehicle crossing continents; it is a story about memories, adventure, and the lasting bond between people and the places they call home.
