GST 2.0 Impact: After Audi, Other Car Makers Announce Price Slash
Although the new GST regime will be effective from September 22, 2025, the automakers have started announcing significant discounts on their existing portfolio. After the German carmaker Audi, other manufacturers, including Tata Motors, Hyundai, Mahindra, Renault, Toyota, Mercedes-Benz, Nissan, Kia, Mini, and Lexus, have confirmed price revisions, with reductions ranging from a few thousand to several lakh rupees.
Tata Motors: The domestic carmaker Tata Motors has announced price cuts of up to Rs 1.55 lakh across its lineup, passing the full GST benefit to customers.
Hyundai: The Korean carmaker Hyundai vehicles will offer a discount ranging from Rs 60,640 to Rs 2.40 lakh on its entire range in the Indian car market, including the Grand i10 Nios, Aura, i20, Venue, Verna, Creta, Alcazar, and Tucson. The cost of Hyundai’s electric models remains unaffected.
Mahindra & Mahindra: The homegrown carmaker Mahindra & Mahindra is offering a discount of up to Rs 1 lakh to 1.56 lakh on its all models, including popular models like the Scorpio-N, XUV700, Thar and Thar Roxx.
Mercedes-Benz: The German luxury car maker Mercedes-Benz has slashed prices by up to Rs 11 lakh across its range. The S-Class 450 4MATIC now costs Rs 1.88 crore (down from Rs 1.99 crore), while the GLS 450d AMG Line is cheaper by Rs 10 lakh. Entry models like the A 200d are now priced at Rs 45.95 lakh, down by Rs 2.6 lakh.
Toyota: Toyota models such as the Glanza, Rumion, Urban Cruiser Hyryder, Fortuner, Innova Crysta, and Vellfire are now more affordable, with reductions between Rs 48,700 and Rs 3.49 lakh.
Renault: Renault’s Kwid, Kiger, and Triber see price cuts between Rs 40,000 and Rs 96,000, depending on the variant.
Nissan: The Nissan Magnite lineup is now cheaper, with entry variants priced at Rs 5.61 lakh, while higher CVT trims see reductions of up to Rs 1 lakh.
Kia: Kia has announced price cuts across its popular models: Sonet (up to Rs 1.64 lakh), Seltos (up to Rs 75,332), Carens (up to Rs 78,674), Syros (up to Rs 1.86 lakh), and Carnival (up to Rs 4.48 lakh).
Mini: The Mini Cooper receives reductions of up to Rs 3 lakh, with the hatchback’s starting price now at Rs 43.70 lakh.
Lexus: Luxury carmaker Lexus has announced major corrections, with price cuts ranging from Rs 1.47 lakh on the ES 300h to Rs 20.8 lakh on the LX 500d SUV.
Industry Impact: With the festive season soon to arrive in India, industry experts believe a hike in the demand for vehicles. The revised GST structure is expected to boost affordability across segments, from entry-level hatchbacks to premium luxury cars, making this one of the most significant price adjustments in recent years.
