Hyundai Creta Awarded as ICOTY 2016
Launched in July this year, the compact SUV Creta from Korean car maker Hyundai Motors has succeeded in impressing the jury constituted for determining the Indian Car of the Year 2016. Leaving behind its strong contenders Maruti Suzuki Baleno, Honda Jazz, Renault Kwid, and Ford Figo Aspire, the committee of 14 leading automobile experts awarded 96 points to Creta followed by Maruti Suzuki Baleno being runners up with 85 points, Renault Kwid with 71 point, and Ford Figo Aspire and Honda Jazz scoring 36 and 32 points respectively.
The factors considered for determining the ICOTY 2016 included fuel efficiency, comfort, styling, performance, technical features, safety features, practicality, price, value for money and of-course compatibility with Indian roads. Interestingly the compact SUV emerged as one of the best selling compact SUV’s in country within the span of two months after its launch.
Energised with 1.6 litre VTVT petrol engine boosting the power of 121 bhp and torque of 151 Nm and delivers the fuel efficient performance of 15.29 kmpl. The diesel trim on the other delivers the fuel efficient performance of 21.38 kmpl and 19.67 kmpl and is empowered with 1.4 litre diesel and 1.6 litre diesel engine respectively. All the engine configurations are mated with six speed manual gear transmission system followed by 1.6 litre CRDi system offered with six speed automated transmission system.
