Electric vehicles have gained huge popularity not only in India but across the world. With the expansion of the EV segment, various new companies are entering the market alongside established automobile manufacturers. As the EV industry is still undergoing an expansion phase, it has created a platform on which startups and traditional internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicle makers can compete on a relatively equal footing. In India, with the increasing market for electric vehicles, several new startups are working on innovative mobility solutions. One such company is Blinq Mobility, an electric vehicle startup based in Gurugram. Recently, a video was shared by the company exhibiting its first electric vehicle prototype, known as Car1.The video, shared on the official YouTube channel of Blinq Mobility, features the unveiling of the Car1 prototype along with footage of the vehicle being driven on Indian roads. While several Indian startups have previously showcased EV prototypes, Blinq’s project stands out as the company appears to be progressing toward a more refined and production-ready model.

In the video, the Car1 electric vehicle is seen undergoing real-world testing on public roads. This indicates the company’s aggressive, progressive strategy of identifying and resolving issues that may arise during everyday usage. Real-world testing helps the team ensure that the vehicle performs reliably in typical urban driving conditions. The design of the Car1 is also visible in the footage, and interestingly, the car’s overall appearance resembles the shape of the Tata Nano, once known as India’s most affordable car. It remains unclear whether Blinq intentionally drew inspiration from the Nano’s compact design or used an existing Nano shell to accelerate the development process.

 

At the front, the EV features honeycomb-inspired LED lighting elements, while sleek LED headlamps are positioned slightly lower on the fascia. The nose section of the car is finished in gloss black and carries an illuminated Blinq logo at the centre. Compact Design with Aerodynamic Focus  Like most electric vehicles, the Car1 does not feature a traditional ventilated front grille since EVs do not require extensive cooling like combustion engines. The front windshield and bumper have been designed carefully to minimise drag and improve aerodynamics, which can contribute to better efficiency and driving range. The vehicle runs on small, narrow wheels that appear similar in size to the 12-inch units used in the Tata Nano, although the company has not officially confirmed the exact specifications yet.

 

 

Another interesting aspect of the Car1 prototype is its body construction. The vehicle uses proprietary composite materials for its exterior body panels. According to the company, these materials allowed the designers greater flexibility in shaping the vehicle while maintaining structural strength. Blinq claims that these custom panels are even stronger than conventional steel panels.

 

 

The video also demonstrates the EV climbing a ramp from a basement parking area. This type of gradient is common in urban environments, particularly in residential and commercial complexes. The prototype manages the climb smoothly, suggesting that the vehicle has sufficient torque and power for city driving scenarios.Blinq Mobility is also working on an innovative battery-swapping system for the Car1. The company aims to create a mechanism that allows the battery pack to be easily latched or removed with a single command. It is not yet clear whether this command will be voice-controlled or operated through another interface. With each prototype iteration, Blinq states that it is getting closer to delivering a practical city-focused EV that offers good manoeuvrability, adequate driving range, and convenience for daily commuting.

 

 

At present, Blinq Mobility has not disclosed key specifications such as the battery capacity, electric motor output, or the real-world driving range of the Car1. Given its compact size and urban focus, the vehicle is expected to prioritise efficiency rather than high performance. Interestingly, the video shows the Car1 prototype parked next to the MG Comet EV, which currently features a 17.4 kWh battery pack. This comparison hints at the possible size segment Blinq is targeting.

 

 

Blinq Mobility aims to develop a simple and affordable electric mobility solution designed primarily for city commuting. The company plans to price the Car1 electric vehicle close to the cost of a three-wheeler, making it an attractive option for urban users seeking an economical EV. However, the company has not yet announced an official launch timeline for the vehicle.
