Jeep Wrangler Recall: 80K SUVs Hit by TPMS Fault in US
The US-based carmaker Jeep has recalled almost 80,000 Wrangler SUVs in the United States due to a defect in the tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS). According to company sources, the issue is found in the pinched cable, traced back to an assembly problem, which restricts the system from detecting low tyre pressures. In a statement issued by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), FCA US started detecting the issue in October last year after reports of warning lights appearing on some Wranglers. After intensive research for several months, the issue was detected in the remote start antenna cable, which could be pinched under the left rear seatbelt retractor bracket, resulting in a defect in TPMS.
The recall affects 78,989 Jeep Wranglers from the 2024 and 2025 model years. The experts at Jeep estimate that only about one per cent of the recalled units — roughly 790 vehicles — are likely to have the defect.
To rectify the issue on the affected vehicles, the company will notify the owners to bring their vehicles to dealerships, where technicians will inspect and, if necessary, replace the cable free of charge. While customer notifications are expected to begin early next month, Jeep has informed dealers that a remedy is not currently available. The Indian line-up of Jeep in India includes Wrangler, Compass, Meridian, and Grand Cherokee, but no recall has been issued for the India-spec models at this time.
