Kia Recalls More Than 30,000 Carens, Here’s The Reason
Kia India has recalled more than 30,000 units of its third-best-selling MPV Carens in the Indian car market to update its software. It is for the second time after the launch of Kia in February 2022 that the company has recalled Carens to update its software. According to reports, the company has recently updated the MPV with new OBD2-compliant Phase 2 engines. In a statement by the company about 30, 297 units have been recalled to rectify the issue.
It is reported that the units recalled were manufactured between September 2022 and February 2023. Commenting on the recent recall, company sources said, “conducts regular checks and rigorous testing of components, governed by brand's global standard”. The software in recalled units will be updated after inspection by the carmaker free of cost. In a statement issued by the company, "The recall campaign has been initiated to inspect any potential error in the cluster booting process that may cause the cluster to go blank”. Earlier Kia had recalled Carens in May 2022, just three months after its launch to rectify the issue related to the software”. At that time, the company had called more than 4,000 units.
This year in March, the company updated the petrol engines of Carens to E20 fuel efficient. The MPV now is offered with a new 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine mated with a six-speed iMT gearbox and a seven-speed DCT gearbox system. Carens is available with a starting price of Rs 10.45 lakh and goes high up to Rs 18.45 lakh for the top-end version. Both prices are ex-showroom prices.
