The domestic carmaker Mahindra and Mahindra has confirmed to continue its support for all warranties on its vehicles, even as India shifts to E20 fuel. The automaker has issued an advisory regarding this to both customers and dealers, reassuring them that older Mahindra vehicles will remain covered under the official warranty period. The company has assured that its engines are fully compliant with existing gasoline standards and can be “operated safely” with E20 fuel. Vehicles manufactured after April 1, 2025, will be compatible with E20 fuel compliance to maintain optimal acceleration and fuel efficiency. As far as vehicles manufactured before this period are concerned, they might witness a slight difference in performance according to the driving practices. The company, however, assured customers that their vehicles will remain “completely safe to drive” with the new fuel standards.

 

 

Mahindra has once again expressed its commitment to government initiatives for alternative fuels, particularly biofuels. In a statement issued by the company, it is said, “We believe in contributing to a sustainable future through innovative automotive solutions,”. The announcement by Mahindra is expected to bring some relief to Mahindra owners who are concerned about E20 fuel’s impact on engine performance and warranty coverage. Most vehicles manufactured before April 2025 are designed for E10, or a 10% ethanol mix fuel. However, Mahindra and other automakers have been factoring in fuel adulteration for years, building more resilient engines for the Indian market.

 

Understanding E20 Fuel: E20 fuel consists of a 20% ethanol mix with petrol and is part of India’s efforts toward greener energy solutions. Some users have reported a drop of 15–20% in fuel efficiency and expressed concern about damage to the engine from this fuel type. According to official testing agencies, the actual drop in fuel efficiency is limited to about 1–2%, without any damage to the vehicle. This announcement from Mahindra will surely strengthen the confidence of customers navigating the country’s transition to cleaner fuels.
