Taking a major step towards the launch of the Vision SXT concept in the market, the domestic carmaker Mahindra has filed a design patent in India. According to reports, the first SUV developed on the platform is getting closer to production and is expected to be available with both internal combustion engine (ICE) and electric vehicle (EV) options. The Vision SXT was first showcased during Mahindra's Freedom_NU event in August 2025 as one of the company's next-generation SUV concepts built on the new NU_IQ platform. While the automaker has not officially announced its launch date, the newly filed patent suggests that work on the production model is progressing steadily.

 

 

 

The patent images reveal that the production-ready Vision SXT closely resembles the concept vehicle. It carries forward its bold, boxy stance along with a muscular front fascia featuring a wide grille, split LED headlamps, Y-shaped daytime running lights, and a prominent skid plate. Additional design highlights include flared wheel arches, side steps, chunky off-road tyres, and a distinctive external roll-cage-inspired tubular structure along the sides. These elements reinforce the SUV's adventure-focused character while giving it a commanding road presence.

 

 

The Vision SXT is underpinned by Mahindra's new NU_IQ architecture, a modular platform designed to accommodate multiple vehicle sizes and propulsion systems. This flexible platform allows Mahindra to manufacture both petrol/diesel-powered and fully electric models using the same base architecture. The platform is expected to play a crucial role in Mahindra's future SUV lineup as the company expands its ICE and EV portfolios.

 

 

Mahindra is likely to introduce the Vision SXT with conventional petrol or diesel engines alongside an all-electric version. Depending on the variant, buyers may also get the option of two-wheel-drive (2WD) or four-wheel-drive (4WD) configurations. While the concept showcased twin spare wheels mounted at the rear, the production version is expected to feature a single rear-mounted spare wheel for improved practicality and everyday usability. Official details regarding battery specifications, engine options, and performance are expected to be revealed closer to the SUV's launch.

 

 

Although Mahindra has not confirmed an official launch schedule, industry expectations suggest that the production-spec Vision SXT could make its public debut later this year. The patent filing strengthens speculation that the SUV is nearing its production phase and will become an important addition to Mahindra's expanding lineup of next-generation SUVs.
