Mahindra Moves Towards Possession of 800 Acres in Nagpur
Mahindra & Mahindra is moving ahead with its plans to establish its largest integrated automobile and tractor manufacturing facility in Nagpur, Maharashtra. The company is now progressing towards taking possession of the first approximately 800 acres of land at Additional Butibori for the proposed greenfield facility. The upcoming manufacturing plant will be developed across 1,500 acres in the Vidarbha region. It will also be supported by a 150-acre supplier park in Sambhajinagar, which will provide components not only to the new Nagpur facility but also to Mahindra’s existing manufacturing plants in Chakan and Nashik.
Once fully operational, the Nagpur facility is expected to have an annual production capacity of more than 5 lakh vehicles and 1 lakh tractors. This will make it Mahindra’s largest integrated manufacturing facility in India. The company had earlier announced an investment of ₹15,000 crore over ten years for the project, with production expected to begin in 2028.
Focus on Jobs and Skill Development
Along with developing the manufacturing facility, Mahindra plans to focus significantly on creating employment opportunities and developing the skills required for future manufacturing operations. The company will establish processes to identify, develop and train talent for automobile and tractor manufacturing across multiple powertrains and emerging technologies. Existing employees with experience in Mahindra’s manufacturing operations will also have opportunities to be considered for roles at the new facility over the next two to three years.
The selection process will take into account technical capabilities, demonstrated behaviour, alignment with Mahindra’s values and the ability to work collaboratively. Mahindra also plans to establish a dedicated skilling centre in Nagpur. The centre will provide training in areas including mechanical operations, welding and painting, helping create a skilled workforce for the upcoming manufacturing ecosystem.
The company is expected to share further details regarding workforce requirements, job opportunities and related processes as the project progresses.
The Nagpur facility is part of Mahindra’s broader manufacturing capacity expansion strategy and is expected to strengthen its ability to cater to growing demand for SUVs, automobiles and tractors in India and potentially export markets.
