Maruti Recalls 39,000+ Grand Vitara SUVs
The Indo-Japanese carmaker Maruti Suzuki has recalled 39,506 units of the Grand Vitara after detecting an issue in the fuel level indicator and warning light on the speedometer assembly. The recalled vehicles were manufactured between December 9, 2024, and April 29, 2025. According to a regulatory filing, the company stated that the fuel level indicator in certain vehicles may fail to display the correct fuel status. According to the company's sources, the affected customers will be contacted by authorised dealer workshops for a free inspection and replacement of the faulty part.
Despite the recall, the company recorded an encouraging performance in October, recording a 7% growth in total sales, reaching 220,894 units compared to 206,434 units in the same month last year. Domestic sales, including commercial vehicles, hit a record high of 180,675 units, while passenger vehicle sales grew 10.48% to 176,318 units. Maruti Suzuki also supplied 8,915 units to Toyota Kirloskar under its OEM arrangement, while exports stood at 31,304 units.
The company's segment-wise performance showed mixed trends. Mini car sales (Alto and S-Presso) dropped to 9,067 units from 10,687 last year. In contrast, compact cars—Baleno, Celerio, Dzire, Ignis, Swift, and WagonR—saw an increase to 76,143 units. Utility vehicles, including Brezza, Ertiga, Fronx, Grand Vitara, Invicto, Jimny, Victoris, and XL6, continued strong momentum with 77,571 units sold, up from 70,644 a year ago. The Eeco van also posted higher sales at 13,537 units.
