Maruti Suzuki Cars Get Costlier By Up To Rs20,000

Maruti Suzuki has announced another price hike for its passenger vehicles in India, making this the company's third price increase in 2026. Select Maruti Suzuki models will become more expensive by up to Rs 20,000 from September 2026. The latest price revision comes at a time when automobile manufacturers are facing continued pressure from rising input and operational costs. Maruti Suzuki has said that the increase has been introduced to partially offset the impact of higher costs.

Third Price Increase Since May

The latest announcement marks Maruti Suzuki's third price hike since May 2026. Unlike the previous two increases, which affected the company's broader passenger-vehicle portfolio, the September revision will apply only to selected models. In May, Maruti Suzuki announced a price increase of up to Rs 30,000 across its passenger-vehicle range, citing higher input costs. The company subsequently implemented another increase of up to Rs 30,000 in August.

The latest hike is comparatively smaller, with the maximum increase capped at Rs 20,000. However, the exact increase will vary depending on the model and variant.

Why Is Maruti Suzuki Increasing Prices?

According to the automaker, rising input costs and inflationary pressures are behind the latest price revision. Increasing costs of raw materials and other production-related inputs have continued to put pressure on manufacturers. The company is therefore passing on a portion of these additional costs to customers through higher vehicle prices. Maruti Suzuki's decision also comes amid broader price increases across India's passenger-vehicle industry. Other manufacturers have also announced price revisions this year as they deal with higher production and operating expenses.

What Does This Mean For Car Buyers?

For customers planning to purchase a Maruti Suzuki vehicle, the latest price hike means that some models will now require a higher budget. The actual increase will depend on the model and variant selected. The timing of the hike is also significant as India's festive buying season approaches. Demand for passenger vehicles traditionally receives a boost during this period, and Maruti Suzuki is entering the season with several popular models in its portfolio.

Despite repeated price increases, demand for Maruti Suzuki vehicles has remained strong. The company reported total sales of 2,19,220 units in August 2026, representing a 21.3% year-on-year increase, according to Reuters.

Maruti Suzuki Prices Continue To Rise

The latest Rs 20,000 increase highlights the continuing cost pressures facing India's automobile industry. While the company has limited the latest revision to selected models, repeated price increases could have an impact on the overall cost of car ownership for new buyers. With the festive season approaching and demand remaining healthy, Maruti Suzuki will be hoping that the latest price adjustment does not significantly affect sales momentum.

For buyers considering a Maruti Suzuki car, checking the revised ex-showroom price before booking will be important, particularly for models affected by the September increase.
