Maruti Suzuki Jimny Aka Nomad Gets Warm Welcome In Japan
The India-made five-door SUV Jimny, by the Indo-Japanese carmaker Maruti Suzuki India, has received an overwhelming response in Japan. According to reports, the parent company Suzuki Motors garnered more than 50,000 bookings in just four days after the announcement of prices, in the Japanese car market. Going to the excessive demand, the company had to temporarily pause the bookings of the SUV.
Manufactured at Maruti Suzuki’s Gurugram facility in Haryana, the Jimny five-door is exclusively manufactured in India and exported to international markets, including Japan. Suzuki aims to sell approximately 1,200 units per month in its domestic market, with deliveries set to begin in April 2025. In the Japanese car market, the SUV is priced between 26,51,000 Yen and 27,50,000 Yen, translating to approximately Rs 14.86 lakh and Rs 15.41 lakh, respectively.
Global Popularity and Expansion: The Suzuki Jimny has long been one of the highly liked off-roaders in the international markets including Australia, South Africa, and Mexico. India serves as the global production hub for the Jimny five-door, with the model being exported to nearly 100 countries. In FY2025, it became the automaker’s second most exported model, following the launch of the made-in-India Fronx in Japan in August 2024.
However, in India, Jimny's sales have been relatively slow, leading automakers to introduce significant discounts to boost demand. The Maruti Suzuki Jimny faces stiff competition in the Indian market from rivals such as the Mahindra Thar Roxx.
Suzuki Jimny Nomad: Power and Performance: The Suzuki Jimny Nomad, the Japanese version of Maruti Suzuki Jimny is powered by a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine. The SUV has two transmission options: a five-speed manual gearbox and a four-speed automatic unit. Equipped with Suzuki’s proprietary AllGrip 4WD system and a low-range transfer case as standard, the Jimny Nomad ensures superior off-road capability. As Suzuki commences the deliveries of Jimny Nomad in Japan, industry experts expect an increase in demand once bookings reopen, strengthening its position as a dominant player in the off-road segment.
