New Hyundai small car gears-up to challenge Maruti Alto’s supremacy in India

The country’s highest selling car Maruti Alto, which has been enjoying absence of any strong competitor in its segment, will soon be witnessing the debut a new rival. Hyundai Motors India Limited, which is the closest rival of Maruti Suzuki in the small car segment, is all set to launch its new 800 cc small car in the country.

The new Hyundai small car has been codenamed as HA that will be launched in the country by the end of this year. The car is currently in the testing phase and was recently spied testing near HMIL’s Sriperumbudur plant site. The unconfirmed market reports suggest that the new Hyundai HA will be blessed with Hyundai’s new fluidic design signature.

The new Hyundai HA will possibly be launched in the price segment of sub Rs 2 lakh, where it will be majorly fighting for space with Maruti Alto. The other competitors of the car will include Tata Nano and Chevrolet Spark.

The car is expected to come powered by 800cc engine petrol engine, delivering a considerably high fuel economy. The HA model will not be replacing the Santro Xing, which is the smallest Hyundai car in the country at present. The car would rather be representing the segment below Santro Xing in the Hyundai’s India portfolio.

The new Hyundai small car is expected to be blessed with a range of advanced and segment exclusive features including EPS, beige interiors, USB/MP3 player and front power windows (in top end variant).

Some of the popular hatchback models in the Indian auto market are Chevrolet Beat Diesel, Toyota Etios Liva, Ford Figo, Maruti Swift, Hyundai i10, Chevrolet Beat and Volkswagen Polo. Apart from these popular models, cars going to hit the Indian roads this year are Force One, Nissan Sunny, Maruti Cervo and Honda Brio.
