Octavia EV: Platform and Technical Details: Reports suggest that the upcoming Octavia EV will be based on Volkswagen’s Scalable Systems Platform (SSP) platform. The same platform was used in developing the upcoming Golf by the German carmaker Volkswagen. The news regarding this was confirmed by Skoda CEO Klaus Zellmer. In his words, “The brand was initially prepared to utilize Volkswagen Group’s current MEB platform, they have instead opted for the more advanced SSP architecture to drive their EV evolution”.
Production Model Expected by the End of the Decade: The production-spec Octavia EV, particularly the Estate variant, is slated for a market debut by the end of the decade. It is rumoured that Volkswagen will also launch the next generation Golf at the same time.
Expanding EV Roadmap: Apart from the Octavia EV, Skoda is planning to roll out several other electric models. The Epiq, a sibling to the Volkswagen ID.2, will be a part of upcoming vehicles by the Czech carmaker. Additionally, the company is working on a production variant of the Vision 7S concept. Although Skoda is moving towards electrification, Zellmer has assured that the company will continue to offer internal combustion engine (ICE) models. The automaker plans to equip entry-level vehicles like the Fabia, Kamiq, and Scala with mild hybrid powertrains to comply with the upcoming Euro 7 emission norms.
Will These Electric Vehicles Make Their Way To India? The answer to this question remains unanswered as Skoda has not officially confirmed any plans to launch these EV models in India. However, considering the existing situation of the auto sector in India and government incentives supporting EV manufacturing, it is speculated that Skoda could introduce the Octavia EV and hybrid variants to the Indian market in the future.
