Renault To Make Dedicated Electric Car For Indian Car Market

The French multinational car maker Renault has no plans to bring an electric version from its existing line-up to the Indian car market.  According to reports, there were rumours of the electric KWID readying for launch in India. Denying all these speculations and rumours, a recent report reveals that the Kwid EV isn’t coming to India, instead, the market may receive a dedicated EV.
According to Venkatram Mamillapalle, CEO and MD, Renault India, “When we bring, we bring EV. We don’t try to put EV into an ICE modification and things like that. We have to bring a proper EV”.  A dedicated EV means a new electric vehicle not having any ICE version. In the international market, the French car maker has a fleet of electric vehicles and the only dedicated electric car is Zoe.  That means the company might develop the same strictly for India.
The main reason behind this thought is the problem of adding an electric vehicle in India is through localisation. As the components like batteries, battery modules, and electric motors are imported, the cost of manufacturing these vehicles go high. Although there is no confirmation regarding Renault putting its feet in the electric car segment, there is a hint, that if the localisation of these components is possible the company will launch its first electric car in India.
