Skoda to launch two new SUVs by 2013
Skoda Auto, a Czech republic based subsidiary of the largest European car making group Volkswagen AG, is planning to add two new compact Sports Utility Vehicles (SUVs) in its global portfolio. Both of these SUVs will be shelved below the price segment of their sibling Skoda Yeti, and will be hitting the market over the period of next two years.

The first one of these upcoming Skoda SUVs will be based on A0 platform of their parent Volkswagen AG, to which the German auto giant is using to develop a new compact SUV. However, the Skoda SUV is expected to be priced slightly below as against their Volkswagen counterpart. The new Skoda SUV models will be rolled-out in both petrol and diesel version in the Indian market, powered by a direct-injection petrol engine and a newly developed 1.5-litre diesel engine, respectively. On the other hand, the second Skoda SUV will be based on the platform of new premium luxury Sports Utility Vehicle Volkswagen Touareg.

In past few months, a number of global car makers have come-up with their plans of launching new compact SUVs in the market that comprises of Maruti Suzuki Ertiga, Ford EcoSport. It is likely that the Skoda will launch the smaller compact SUV in the Indian market, as a part of its future portfolio expansion plans.
However, the Indian subsidiary of the Skoda Auto is also working on launching a seven seater version of the premium SUV Yeti in the Indian market, which could fill the place of a new SUV in their Indian portfolio.
