Solar-Powered Car Offers Up to 250 Km Range

Amid the increasing adoption of electric mobility, Pune-based startup Vayve Mobility has introduced the Eva, a compact electric car designed primarily for urban mobility. One of its notable features is the integrated solar roof, which can provide additional energy to the battery while the vehicle is parked or driven in sunlight. The top-spec version offers a claimed range of up to 250 km on a single charge.

Solar Roof Adds Extra Range

The Vayve Eva is not a completely solar-powered car. Instead, its integrated photovoltaic solar roof supplements the main battery by converting sunlight into electrical energy. According to the company, the solar roof can provide around 10–12 km of additional range per day under suitable conditions. This feature can be particularly useful for people who primarily use the car for short daily trips. The car also uses regenerative braking technology, which recovers some of the kinetic energy generated while slowing down and sends it back to the battery.

Three Variants With Different Battery Packs

Vayve Mobility offers the Eva in three variants, allowing buyers to choose according to their range and budget requirements. The Nova gets a 9 kWh battery pack and offers a claimed range of up to 125 km. The Stella comes with a larger 12.6 kWh battery and delivers up to 175 km of range. At the top of the range is the Vega, which uses an 18 kWh battery pack and offers up to 250 km of range.

The top-spec Vega also supports CCS2 DC fast charging, while the Eva can be charged using a standard 15A household socket. Vayve states that the 18 kWh version can be charged from 10% to 70% in around 15 minutes using DC fast charging.

Compact Design for City Driving

The Eva has been designed specifically for crowded urban environments. Its compact dimensions make it easier to manoeuvre through congested roads and park in tight spaces. The car can accommodate two adults and one child. In terms of performance, the Eva has a top speed of 70 kmph and can accelerate from 0 to 40 kmph in approximately five seconds. The car also features regenerative braking and multiple regeneration settings.

Features and Safety

Despite its small footprint, the Eva comes with several modern features. Depending on the variant, buyers can get features such as Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, app-based connectivity, a digital interface, parking sensors and a reverse camera. The company says the vehicle uses a monocoque chassis and includes safety features such as a driver airbag and front crumple zone. The Eva also uses an LFP battery designed for Indian climatic conditions.

Vayve Eva Price in India

The Vayve Eva starts at Rs3.25 lakh, with the company offering a vehicle purchase and battery-leasing/subscription model. The higher variants are priced above the entry-level version, with the top Vega available at a higher price depending on the purchase and battery-plan configuration. With its compact design, solar-assisted charging and relatively low entry price, the Vayve Eva is aimed at consumers looking for an affordable electric car primarily for everyday city commuting.
