Tata Motors To Offer BaaS On All Its EVs
Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles has expanded its Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) programme to cover its entire electric vehicle range in India. The initiative, which was initially introduced for the Tiago.ev and Punch.ev, is now available with the Nexon.ev, Curvv.ev, Sierra.ev and Harrier.ev as well. The BaaS model is designed to reduce the initial purchase price of an electric vehicle by separating the cost of the battery from the vehicle's upfront price. Customers can finance the vehicle and battery separately, with the battery component being paid through a separate EMI and usage-based charges.

Tata EV Prices Under BaaS
With the expanded programme, the introductory vehicle prices under the BaaS structure start at Rs 4.69 lakh for the Tiago.ev. The Punch.ev starts at Rs 6.59 lakh, while the Nexon.ev is available from Rs 8.99 lakh. The Curvv.ev has a starting BaaS price of Rs 10.99 lakh, followed by the Sierra.ev at Rs 11.99 lakh and the Harrier.ev at Rs 14.49 lakh. These prices refer to the vehicle portion under the BaaS arrangement, with battery payments handled separately.
Battery Cost Linked to Usage
Under Tata Motors' BaaS programme, customers have separate financing arrangements for the vehicle and battery. The battery EMI can vary depending on factors such as battery capacity, down payment and loan tenure. The company has also specified battery usage charges on a per-kilometre basis. The Tiago.ev and Punch.ev have a starting charge of Rs 2.6 per km. For the Tiago.ev, this calculation is based on an estimated daily running of 44 km, while the Punch.ev calculation assumes 60 km of daily usage.
For the larger EVs, the Nexon.ev starts at Rs 4.4 per km, while the Curvv.ev carries a starting rate of Rs 5 per km. The Sierra.ev and Harrier.ev have starting battery usage charges of Rs 5.5 per km and Rs 5.9 per km, respectively. The per-kilometre figures for these larger models are based on an estimated daily running of 60 km.
What Does the BaaS Model Include?
The BaaS arrangement focuses on separating battery financing from the vehicle purchase. However, the battery-related payment does not cover electricity or charging expenses. Customers will also have to pay separately for vehicle maintenance and repairs. Tata Motors says the structure gives buyers another way to evaluate the cost of owning an electric vehicle. Customers can continue to purchase an EV with the battery included or choose the BaaS option to reduce their initial acquisition cost.
With the latest expansion, Tata Motors has made BaaS available across its complete EV portfolio, giving buyers an alternative financing structure for its electric vehicles.
