Tata Sierra To Comeback With Electronic Powertrain
The domestic carmaker Tata Motors phased out the two-door SUV Sierra in 2003 to update with the latest features. It is now almost after 20 years the company showcased the production version of the SUV during the recently concluded Indian Auto Expo 2023. In its new avatar, the Sierra will receive an electric powertrain and a petrol version. According to reports, the SUV will be finally launched in 2025, and the electric Sierra will be launched as a Final version of the SUV.
To begin with, the powertrain, as the new Sierra will be christened Sierra EV, it will receive a body shell similar to an electric vehicle. Although the company has not yet disclosed the power trains. It is reported to introduce the ICE version of the SUV. It is believed that the new ICE engine will be a 1.5-litre, four-cylinder T-GDi engine that generates a power of 170 PS and a torque of 280Nm.
Inside the cabin, it will receive a future style design philosophy with a dual-tone colour pattern. This can be witnessed by the airline-style chairs and the absence of multiple buttons for different functions. It is expected to receive physical HVAC controls and buttons for operating different functions. It is also speculated that the production version might receive an ambient lighting system, a floating touchscreen, and a layered dashboard design pattern.
On the exterior front, it will receive a long LED strip moving from the front fascia to reach. The front fascia of the prototype doesn’t have any large grille. It just receives a standard bumper with a silver skid plate followed by the Tata Logo on the centre of the front fascia. The rear portion receives the same LED strip as offered on the front fascia. The rear bumper has black cladding similar to the side profile. The rear portion also receives a large silver skid plate, indicating its launch in a 4x4 driving option. After launch in the Indian car market, it will go against the likes of Force Gurkha, Mahindra Thar and Maruti Suzuki Jimny.
On comparing the concept Sierra showcased during the Auto Expo with its older version. The new Sierra is much bigger and gets a five-door configuration instead of two doors as available in its previous version. It also doesn’t have the curve-shaped windows like its last generation. The panoramic sunroof replaces the fixed sunroof.
